Wright County deputie

Just before 1 a.m., according to the sheriff's office, deputies were sent
to the 12000 block of 72nd Court NE in response to complaints of a
man making threats against himself and his family.

According to a news release, the man first agreed to go to the hospital
for an evaluation when law officers arrived. The man allegedly ran into
the kitchen while they were waiting for the ambulance, grabbed a
knife, and fled the house.

Squads established a search zone in the area and requested the
assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter.

Shortly after, according to the sheriff's office, the man assaulted the
deputies in a nearby backyard while brandishing a knife.

He was unsuccessfully Tasered by two deputies.

When the man allegedly threatened them with a knife at that time, two
deputies allegedly opened fire, striking the man.
The victim was shot and taken immediately to North Memorial
Hospital, where he eventually passed away.

According to the customary procedure, the deputies involved in the
deadly shooting were placed on administrative leave. Jordan Hansen,
age 21, was the victim of the fatal accident on Sunday, according to
family relatives.

According to FOX 9, Hansen was originally from Faribault but had
recently moved out of rehab for substance misuse and was staying with
an uncle in Otsego, Minnesota.

Having struggled with mental health and substance abuse difficulties
for many years, the family claims Hansen was staying with his uncle to
start over and had been sober for approximately a year.

The family is also puzzled as to how Hansen managed to enter the
kitchen and obtain a knife.

They claim that he spent the majority of the encounter in his room.

They question whether the deputies were adequately prepared to
respond to a mental health call.
